It's been a while...

The best laid plans of mice and writers often go astray

I launched this Substack with so many good and passionate intentions: to write about writing, to document the processes and practices and principles of science journalism, and to possibly build up enough of a following to maybe get some paid subscribers.

Then Life Happens – nothing serious, just the usual maelstrom of deadlines, volunteer commitments, family commitments, gardening commitments (for real; I have council breathing down my neck about the growing plague of blackberry in the garden), and that baseline exhaustion that seems to be dragging down everyone right now.

But a brief moment – like, 24 hours – where I’m not staring down the barrel of a deadline, is enough to kick-start my ‘I’m not quite busy enough let’s add something else to the mix’ energy, so I’m resolving to start writing these pieces again.

Let’s see how long this one lasts.
